The number of licensed golfers in Germany rose by 1.36 percent to 651,417 in 2020, the highest increase in a year since 2012, according to a new report by a golf economy expert, Falk Billion, titled Golfmarkt Deutschland 2021. The report, which can be downloaded free of charge, is published by Sommerfeld, a German company specializing in the construction and maintenance of golf courses. The majority of German golf clubs had newcomers, indicates the report, and more than half of the clubs recorded a significantly higher number of beginners’ lessons. Furthermore, around 8 percent more rounds were played in Germany 2020 as compared to 2019, due apparently to restrictions on collective indoor sports as well as foreign travel due to Covid-19.
