Time magazine has included the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next% distance-running sneaker in its list of the ”100 Best Inventions of 2020” under the Fitness category. The Kenyan distance runner Eliud Kipchoge was wearing a variant of the Alphafly when, in September 2018, he became the first human being to run a marathon – albeit an unofficial one – in less than two hours. The bounce of the shoe’s carbon plates prompted the world’s governing body for competitive running, World Athletics, to change its rules for the use of running shoes in competitions. Other items in the category are the Hydrow rowing machine, with electromagnetic resistance and a touchscreen for networked, virtual training, and Within’s Supernatural exercise app, which pairs with the Oculus Quest or Quest 2 virtual-reality headsets.
