Alita, the Bangladeshi bicycle company, is expanding its facilities to better serve its European customers. It plans to finalize a land purchase by June to begin construction on its second production facility. It should be able to make 150,000 bicycles each year, on top of the 110,000-120,000 its current factory puts out. The company is also increasing its offering of middle-range bikes, moving more toward bikes costing €54-75 instead of its previous focus on the €36-40 range. The Bangladesh bike industry comprises 15 companies, with an export value of €25.6 million from July 2008 to June 2009, an increase of 61.15 percent from the previous year.
