August was a positive month for sporting goods sales in Sweden. According to HUI, the Swedish market research institute, sporting goods retailers' sales were up by 7.9 percent at current prices, when compared to last year, making August the fourth best month after a record start in January-March. In terms of volume or fixed prices, the rate of increase was 4.2 percent, which means that prices have risen. This has occurred almost every month this year and is probably equally a result of fewer price wars and appreciation of the U.S. dollar. So far this year, Swedish sporting goods sales have increased by 4.7 percent, which is in line with the increase for the same period of last year.
