Amazon and HanesBrands have jointly filed 13 lawsuits in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. They allege that 17 defendants sold through Amazon’s marketplace silicone protective earbud case covers under the Champion name, a trademark registered by HanesBrands. Amazon has closed the defendants’ accounts. Amazon says that it has invested more than $700 million and employed more than 10,000 people to prevent counterfeiting. In 2020, it continues, only 6 percent of potential new vendors withstood its scrutiny and were permitted to open accounts. It says also that fewer than 0.01 percent of the products sold on Amazon received counterfeit complaints from customers. In June of last year the company established its Counterfeit Crimes Unit to carry out investigations and prosecutions in this area. Amazon has filed joint lawsuits with a number of brands, among them Valentino, Ferragamo, KF Beauty, JL Childress, Yeti and Dutch Blitz.
