FIFA has announced the appointment of Elkhan Mammadov as director member associations Europe, effective May 1. Mammadov, who is currently the executive vice-president of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), will assume the role vacated by Nodar Akhalkatsi, who has been named FIFA director of strategic projects and member association governance. Mammadov will be responsible for regional strategies for the implementation of the FIFA Forward program, designed to provide tailor-made support for football development in the member associations, as well as for analyzing specific requirements across the member associations in Europe to define development projects and to ensure their implementation. Born in Baku in 1979, Mammadov brings 15 years of European football governance experience to the post. He joined AFFA in 2007. He also served as chairman of the local organizing structure behind the third edition of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in his home country in 2012 while sitting on FIFA’s Fair Play and Social Responsibility Committee. He will be based in Paris with the FIFA Member Associations team.
