Sports Marketing Surveys, the U.K.-based market-research firm, and The Bicycle Association (BA) of Great Britain, the national trade group, have begun releasing data from their current study of the cycling market in the U.K. Sales for the first half of 2019 were down by 4.8 percent in volume but by only 0.5 percent in value. The partners have collected their data from some 650 cycling stores on 263,000 SKUs, covering everything from gear (bikes, e-bikes, parts, accessories, apparel) and micro-mobility (scooters) to services (repairs and labor). By their estimate, they account for about 35 percent of the market’s value. The BA hopes to account for 70 percent of the market by the end of the year.
