In a move intended to protect its trademark from infringements on the eve of Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season, Oeko-Tex has revealed a partnership with a Berlin-based software firm, Sentryc, whose AI-based cloud solution scans more than 120 international online marketplaces and all the social media for product piracy and brand abuse. According to the Zurich-based environmental certification body, thousands of potential cases of misuse have been discovered and resolved using the Sentryc brand protection software since March 2021.

Based on machine learning, the software’s search algorithm combines relevant keywords, detailed descriptions and images to find potential violations. Manipulated images, photos of counterfeits or products and logos as well as suspicious links and hashtags are automatically matched. Oeko-Tex can use a take-down button to decide which potential counterfeits or trademark infringements should be removed.

Oeko-Tex, whose standard has been in the market for almost three decades, says that it is “officially” working with over 21,000 manufacturers, brands and retailers in more than 100 countries. It delivered almost 32,000 labels and certificates in the past financial year.
