Kapsul Tech has started to market its neck protection device, rebranded as Kapsul, as an ingredient brand. The Canadian company is promoting awareness for the neck as a vulnerable and poorly protected part of the body in a variety of sports, especially among younger athletes, who still have underdeveloped neck muscles, as well as women, whose natural biomechanical make-up is prone to less muscular density around the neck.
After receiving a patent for its protective collar, initially called Aexos, the Waterloo, Ontario-based company first went to market with a B2C concept. Now, the company is looking to take the next step by partnering with apparel brands in various sports categories where neck damage can occur such as skiing, snowboarding, contact sports, downhill biking, surfing, horseback riding and other high-impact physical activities.
A comprehensive campaign to raise awareness for neck protection accompanies the B2B initiative. The Kapsul anatomical neck protector has been developed in cooperation with the University of Waterloo to enhance joint stability through the dissipation of forces like rotational accelerations, repetitive trauma or less frequent impacts. It is meant to help mitigate the risk of injury, pain or strain from any activity.
