Rentals and premium gear, as well as ski tourism and consumer expectations, were the Austrian retail network’s best segments.

On April 28, Sport 2000 Austria, part of the international Sport 2000 retail alliance, shared a positive business update following the 2024/25 winter season. According to Managing Director Irina Andorfer, high-quality snow conditions and strong consumer interest in premium ski equipment contributed to a boost in both rental and retail sales.

“People heading to the slopes today are looking for top-tier equipment and maximum flexibility,” said Andorfer, underlining how rental services increasingly serve as a strategic sales tool. More customers are testing high-end skis and boots through rentals before purchasing.

While sales of skis and ski boots in the upper price range were particularly strong, the textile segment showed mixed regional performance, and cross-country and touring gear sales remained stable. The company also highlighted the growing importance of service-based offerings. Custom boot fitting and professional ski tuning continue to attract customers to brick-and-mortar locations. However, challenges such as rising labor costs, a shortage of skilled staff and increasing operational expenses remain a concern for the retail sector.

Despite these pressures, Sport 2000 Austria maintained its top ranking in customer satisfaction and ski rental services in the ÖGVS 2025 industry monitor for the fifth consecutive year. The group operates as part of the ANWR Group and is linked to a larger Sport 2000 network across seven European countries.
