A Danish high court has found Bestseller, the company behind brands like Jack & Jones and Vero Moda, guilty of designing and selling imitation shoe models from New Balance. The ruling will cost Bestseller upwards of 3 million Danish crowns (€0.4m-$0.5m) and all remaining stock of the plagiarized shoes will be handed over to New Balance for destruction. Attorneys for New Balance welcomed the ruling in the case, although they had originally sought damages of no less than DKK 12 million (€1.6m-$2.0m). Of the two shoe models in question, one was purchased from and designed by a Chinese supplier. An internal designer at Jack & Jones created the second one.
