A new Swedish bike helmet invention, Hövding, received an Index:Award from the Danish crown prince and princess last month. Like a typical airbag, Hövding works as a collar with a removable shell that is blown up into a helmet at the moment an accident happens. Developed by two Swedish students in industrial design, it can be worn as a practical fashion accessory, especially by women who find regular bike helmets ugly. The helmet is about to be launched through a web shop and via Designtorget in Sweden and Norway. The Index:Award is one of the world's most prestigious design awards, involving a prize of €100,000 for each of the winners in five different categories.
