About 46,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike sports shoes were seized at the port of Hamburg a few days ago. Customs officers detected Nike sports shoes, suspecting that they may be counterfeits, next to unbranded shoes in a cleared maritime container in the port of Hamburg in mid-April. A couple of days later, during an x-ray control of maritime containers at the local customs bureau, the same Nike shoes were found missing. The officers assumed that the shoes were exchanged in the interim storage facility. Inspecting the premises of the shipping company, the investigators detected the sought-after Nike shoes in a depot. They were secured on-site and loaded on seven containers. Nike checked the shoes and confirmed that they were counterfeit shoes, due to be sold in Europe. The shipping company, which is already on record for former collaboration in product counterfeiting, will be facing a trial for tax fraud and trademark infringement.
