According to GfK, whose figures were quoted in the Sport+Mode magazine, the German sporting goods market fell by an estimated 3 percent in the first quarter of 2014, dragged down by declines of 6 percent in both apparel and equipment. Sales of sports shoes increased by 4 percent, thanks especially to running and walking. Mild weather led to increases of 16 percent for bikes and 20 percent for fun-wheels, contrasting with decreases of 13 percent in skis, 22 percent in snowboards and 4 percent in outdoor products. Football and golf went up by 10 percent and 8 percent, respectively.
