According to new market research, the Chinese outdoor market expanded by 57.8 percent in 2011 to an estimated 11 billion yuan at the retail level, or the equivalent of €1.4 billion, compared with the level of 6,970 million yuan reported in 2010. The figures come from a report compiled by the organizers of the Asia Outdoor show in cooperation with the China Outdoor Alliance, which comprises leading local brands such as Toread, Kailas, Northland, Scaler and Mobi Garden. The breakdown by product category shows shares of 52 percent for apparel, 25 percent for shoes, 12 percent for backpacks and 11 percent for other equipment. Between 2010 and 2011, the total number of brands in the market grew by 19.6 percent to a total of 574, of which 356 are foreign and 218 domestic.
