According to Virke, the Enterprise Federation of Norway, the Norwegian sporting goods industry has grown by 41 percent in the period of 2008 to 2016, and it can expect to grow by a further 4 percent in 2018 in terms of sales to the trade. At the retail level, sales should rise by 3 percent this year, after an increase of only one percent in 2017. Virke's chief economist, Lars Haartveit, notes that e-commerce is growing dramatically in the sector, affecting small retailers as well as big players like XXL and Gresvig.
