Adidas has pledged to use only recycled plastic by 2024. The announcement was first reported by the Financial Times. The company uses virgin plastic for a number of its products, including T-shirts, sports bras and many others, as this material is lightweight and dries quickly. Meanwhile, the sporting goods giant has been using recycled polyester derived from recovered ocean waste for a number of years. Recycled polyester has so far been incorporated into jerseys, swimwear, apparel and a range of performance running shoes. On July 11, Adidas Running celebrated the closing of Run For The Oceans 2018, a four-week-long running initiative to fight marine plastic pollution, in partnership with Parley for the Oceans. The initiative, which attracted nearly one million runners from all over the world, saw Adidas donate $1 million to help fund the Parley Ocean Plastic Program. Adidas has been supporting Parley in its education and communication programs since 2015.
