The Adidas Group is set to hire an additional 120 employees at its North American head office in Portland, Oregon, as the company continues to invest to regain U.S. market share. The number of group employees in Portland already increased from 850 to 1,200 last year, with the shift of some global functions to the U.S. office and the enlargement of existing teams for the North American market.
The group had announced last year that it purchased a building of more than 2,300 square meters, adjacent to its current campus in Portland, to accommodate more staff.
Furthermore, Adidas has been making more creative use of social media in the U.S., for example by encouraging potential recruits to learn about jobs at Adidas through a post on the Linkedin page of Mark King, president of the Adidas group in North America. As the company is growing, he writes, it wants “people who aren't afraid to take risks, who want to break rules, be disruptive and find new ways of doing things.”
As previously reported, Adidas has also been investing in product ranges that are more attuned to the U.S. market, where it is seeking to raise its profile through bolder marketing initiatives.
Separately, the Adidas Group is preparing to open its biggest store in the world on Fifth Avenue in New York as well as a new design center in Brooklyn later this year. The new flagship store will reportedly occupy a space of around 3,200 square meters close to the local Niketown.
