Retail Insider reported Jan. 10 that Adidas is merging its U.S. and Canadian operations. According to the report, the new combined North American headquarters will be the current U.S. headquarters in Portland, Oregon. In 1993, the company established its U.S. operations in Portland and moved to its existing North Portland campus, called “The Village,” in 2001, which has been gradually expanded over the years. Adidas says The Village presently offers about 50,000 sqm of office space for nearly 1,700 employees. The company also has offices in New York and Los Angeles.
The consolidation of the two country teams aims to work “most effectively” and ensure Adidas is “positioned for continued success in an ever-changing marketplace.” The merger will result in a reduction in the company’s Canadian workforce but will not impact product availability for consumers in Canada, who can shop at 33 branded stores (including a brand new Terrex store), retail partners and online. Adidas said it is “committed to having an open dialogue with affected employees and to supporting all of our employees during the transition to our new integrated One NAM organization.” Adidas Group North America is led by president Rupert Campbell. He took office in early 2022 after Zion Armstrong announced his return to New Zealand.
Alim Dhanji, the former GM of Adidas Canada, which was headquartered in Woodbridge, Ontario, is joining Equinox Group, based in New York City, as chief people officer. Equinox Group is the parent company of Equinox Fitness Clubs, Blink Fitness, Pure Yoga, SoulCycle Inc. as well as Equinox Hotels and Equinox Media.
