Our sister publication SGI USA reported that Adidas is attempting to take over Puma’s long-standing sponsorship of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

JAAA has had a long-term partnership with Puma since 2002. The current deal, reportedly worth about $1 million per year, will expire in December 2024.

For an eight-year offer that would take effect in January 2025, Adidas has reportedly offered a total of $38.8 million, which equates to $4.85 million per year, including $22.2 million in cash and $16.6 million in products. The offer is also reported to include licensing and digital rights as well as royalties equal to 10 percent of net sales of all JAAA branded products on an annual basis. In addition, the deal is said to include cash bonuses for medal wins at the Olympic Games, World Championships, World Indoor Championships, World Junior Championships and World Relays.

Puma has a pre-emption clause in its contract with JAAA so that it can match any other offer if it chooses to do so.
