Adidas has filed a petition with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office against five trademark applications filed by LIV Golf, the Saudi Arabian professional golf league whose CEO is former professional golfer Greg Norman. Adidas claims that the “L” in LIV Golf’s logo, which consists of four vertical parallel lines intersecting with four horizontal parallel lines in the shape of a capital L, is confusingly similar to its iconic three-stripe mark. LIV applied for the mark in April 2022. In announcing its merger with the PGA Tour last June, LIV Golf left open whether the league will continue to use the logo after the merger is complete.
