After 10 years of operations in the Czech Republic, Gigasport, the Austrian sporting goods chain under the helm of Kastner & Öhler, has decided to pull out of the country. Sportfachandel, the German trade publication, reports that Gigasport sensed an ongoing negative evolution of the market, partly fueled by the strong development of discount retail chains, which already led to the closure of two Czech Gigasport stores in 2010. The remaining 11 stores will be shut down by this summer. The retailer entered the Czech Republic in the mid-1990s and was market leader for a while.
