After weak Christmas sales, which were due to high pressure during the Black Friday promotion, the sale of sporting goods in Sweden jumped by 7 percent in January. The main reason for was the abundant snow and the cold weather throughout the country, which motivated higher than average purchases of everything from warm clothes and shoes to winter products for skating, skiing and snowboarding. For January, the sporting goods industry was the big winner in the overall retail sector, which saw sales as a whole rise by 3.7 percent.
