Alberto Bichi, secretary general of Fesi, the European Sporting Goods Industry Federation, will also act as EU public affairs director of HDS, the German shoe and leathergoods industry federation, starting on July 1. Bichi will assist HDS in such areas as international trade, product safety, intellectual property rights, environmental protection and cooperation in European R&D projects. HDS has been working closely with Fesi in the fight against the former European anti-dumping duties on leather shoes from China and Vietnam. For this reason and others, it has not been a member of CEC, the European shoe industry federation, for many years. It is working with Fesi because it requires active representation with EU authorities in Brussels.
