Alibaba Group Holding will promote rugby in China as part of the development and sponsorship deal it signed with World Rugby on April 10. Alisports, the new group's sports division, said it plans to invest millions of U.S. dollars and make a long-term investment in the development of the sport in the country. In exchange, Alisports will be given exclusive rugby broadcast rights for its internet platforms. The partners will also work together to attract more international rugby events to China. Alibaba Group Holding owns 38 percent of Evergrande Taobao FC, a football club based in the southern city of Guangzhou.
