All the national winter sports federations have joined the International Ski Federation (FIS) in opposing plans to stage the 2022 Fifa World Cup in January or February because it could draw viewers away from the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. The venue of the 2022 Olympics has yet to be selected. Qatar has won the bid for the 2022 World Cup of football, but the small and rich Middle East state, which is investing a lot in football, has suggested that the summer months would be too hot for the tournament.
