Amer Sports is going to expand the capacity of its Pamporovo ski factory in Chepelare, Bulgaria, over the next three years, and expects to spend about $5.5 million on the effort. The expansion should increase capacity to about 900,000 to one million pairs per year, representing about two-thirds of the group's total needs, according to reports. Acquired by the group in 2008 for about $3.6 million, the Bulgarian plant made 730,000 units in 2010, or about half of Amer Sports' skis and snowboards under various brands, led by Atomic and Salomon, with the other half being made in Austria. The investment in the factory will add 100 jobs to the 640 employees already there.
