ANWR Group, the biggest German and European cooperative of independent shoe retailers, has taken over Tom Holding, the holding company of Schuh & Sport Mücke Group, a Bavarian discount shoe and sporting goods retail chain, and its eleven stores in Bavaria. Schuh and Sport Mücke recorded sales of about €100 million last year. The group sells products from about 500 brands and labels from the sporting goods, shoe, apparel and accessories segment. Sport and Schuh Mücke is a member of the ANWR Group and Sport 2000. It will remain an independent player on the market. Thomas Mücke remains chief executive officer and someone from the ANWR Group will join the executive board. According to an interview with Günter Althaus, chairman of the management board of ANWR, the group is currently developing a cooperative investment model in order to strengthen the specialized shoe retail trade and its affiliated members.
