As president of Fesi, the European sporting goods industry federation, Frank A. Dassler voiced strong support for a proposal to organize a European “Move Day” to promote and stimulate physical activity across the European Union at a recent international meeting. The proposal was made by Androulla Vassiliou, the incumbent EU commissioner responsible for sport. Speaking at a meeting of the 27 EU sport ministers in Cyprus on Sept. 20, the general attorney of Adidas welcomed the proposed initiative, pointing out that more than 39 percent of EU citizens never practice any sports, according to the European Barometer, and that physical inactivity is the fourth main cause of mortality according to the World Health Organization. Referring to his father, the late Armin Dassler of Puma, he added: “As my father said: Every Deutsche Mark in Sports is a healthy Mark Other than the currency, nothing has changed!”
