As the Spanish sports market remains tense, retail groups representing about 500 stores are setting up a new national organization, the Asociación Nacional de Comercio Deportivo (Ancode), to put forward their interests and concerns. The plan, which still has to be formally implemented, was announced on the last day of the Sports Unlimited trade fair held in Valencia last week. The leading groups behind Ancode are the Asociación de Tiendas de Deporte de Madrid (Madrid association of sports stores) and Calderón Sport, as well as the Cronos, Twinner and Giro 180 buying groups. Antonio Castro Hermida, the young and international-minded manager of Giro 180, has been designated as president of Ancode. Eduardo Hernandez Moya, who runs the Madrid association, is set to act as vice president.
