As we have previously reported, JD Sports Fashion has purchased Isico, a Berlin-based chain of sporting goods that operates ten stores, six of which are located in the German capital. JD is revamping these outlets and rebranding them as JD. Apparently, JD has moderate growth plans for JD in Germany. Two more stores are due to open shortly in Dortmund and Viernheim, a town in the Mannheim/Heidelberg region. It is not sure whether JD will keep Isico's position in the market as a fashion-oriented sporting goods retailer with a special focus on traditional American sports. The company was founded by two American brothers, Marc and Vincent Isichei. They served as soldiers in the U.S. Army in West Berlin and decided not to return to their country after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Vincent Isichei is expected to stay at the helm of JD's new German operations.
