Asics has announced plans to expand the application of its resource-saving dyeing method to more than 50 percent of new products across all of its shoe brands from 2020. The initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions from the dyeing process by about 45 percent and reduce water use by about 33 percent as compared to conventional processes. The move is part of Asics' new climate targets, in line with last October's report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which targets a rise in global temperature not exceeding 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. In 2018, Asics was the first sporting goods firm to have its targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company is also a signatory of the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, which draws on methodologies from the SBTi initiative.
