At its Waterman’s Ball earlier this month, EuroSIMA, the surf industry group, gave out its industry awards. Among the winners were the brands FCS, whose Green Flex project won for ecological innovation, and DC, which was named performance brand of the year. Miguel Azpiroz, the general manager of the surfboard maker Olatu, got the lifetime achievement award for contributing to the surf industry in Spain. Across the Atlantic in the U.S., SIMA held its annual meeting on Oct. 14, and Billabong was the big winner. It won three SIMA Image Awards: men’s apparel brand, women’s apparel brand and environmental product of the year, the latter for its men’s recycled boardshorts.
