Batavus, the Dutch bicycle brand owned by Accell Group, has bought a Swedish bicycle supplier, Vartex, to strengthen the group's position on the Swedish market. Vartex will distribute Batavus as well as other Accell brands, such as Tunturi, Redline and Lapierre. This purchase also means that Vartex will no longer distribute two other brands brands of bicycles, GT and Mongoose, since they belong to a competing group. Batavus has bought 100 percent of Vartex from Peter and Lars Folkesson. Peter will remain as chief executive for two more years, while Lars has already retired.
