BC Partners, a private equity group, is buying a 78.7 percent stake in Gruppo Coin SpA, the largest apparel retailer in Italy. That stake is worth €733 million, and it is reported that BC Partners will also make a play for the remaining shares as well. If so, the total offer would value the company's equity at €930 million. Gruppo Coin is the parent company of the OVS Industry, Coin and UPIM brands. Its sales for the year ended Jan. 31 were up by 38 percent to €1,736 million. It has a 6.15 percent share of the Italian market. It runs 797 stores in Italy and 86 abroad, and its workforce is 9,498 strong.
