Belle International raised the sales of its sportswear and apparel stores in mainland China by 6 percent on a same-store basis in the second quarter of its financial year. These improvements in the three months from June until August were offset by a comparable sales decline of 10.0 percent for the group's footwear business, which has been under pressure for several months. The number of Belle's retail outlets was reduced by 276 over the quarter. It ended the three months with 20,600 stores, including 13,384 footwear stores and 7,216 sportswear and apparel outlets, which are all directly managed by the group. These unaudited figures relate to mainland China, not taking into account Hong Kong or Taiwan.
