Bemis Associates, a U.S. manufacturer of thermoplastic films, tapes and adhesives for bonding catering to various industries, including sportswear, outerwear and intimates, has acquired France-based manufacturing company, Protechnic. The two companies have complementary products and technologies and a strong alignment in their corporate values and culture. Protechnic’s focus on global growth and innovation aligns with Bemis’ business strategy of expanding its product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities. In addition, the company said that Bemis would be able to introduce Protechnic products to the apparel, industrial and consumer electronics markets on an international scale.

The decision to acquire Protechnic was not purely market-driven. Steve Howard, CEO of Bemis, said that the quality of Protechnic’s leadership, commitment to employee development and corporate values were critical to Bemis because they align perfectly with Bemis’ corporate philosophy. Protechnic has a very aggressive sustainability program. The French company has developed bio-based adhesives and continuously works to improve internal operations to avoid waste in landfills, which aligns with Bemis’ commitment to sustainability and environmental programs.

Protechnic will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bemis, retaining its name, brand and governance structure.
