Billabong has prevailed in an appeal to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) from Billa, an Austrian supermarket chain operating in Central and Eastern Europe. Billa had sought to register its name as a trademark for metals, jewelry, leathergoods, games and toys. Billabong successfully opposed the registry on the grounds that it would lead to brand confusion over similar products. Billabong is now part of Boardriders, the group that also owns Quiksilver.
