Blue Tomato, the big Austrian action sports retailer acquired by Zumiez last year, has opened its first door in the Tyrol on a selling surface of 520 square meters, in the state capital of Innsbruck. It is, alongside Blue Tomato's mail-order service, the company's fifth point of sale in Austria after outlets in Vienna, Graz, Obertauern and at its headquarters in Schladming. Meanwhile, Blue Tomato has become quite active in the neighboring market of Germany where the chain intends to open its sixth store later this year. The new sales point will be located in Berlin and follows other shops in Hamburg, Rosenheim, Stuttgart and two more in Munich. A major concern of the company is the link between on- and offline sales. Customers will be able to have items purchased online shipped to stores near-by as an alternative to their homes. The advantage is that shipment will be free of charge and the customer will have the opportunity to check the fitting and to change items or to cancel the order as well as not having to be home to receive items.
