Ispo has named the winners of its BrandNew Awards, who will be in display in the show's BrandNew Village in Hall C2 at the Munich show on Feb. 6-9.
The Thermo Cool Overall winner was 360ball, a new sport similar to tennis or squash that is played on a round court. The jury decided that this South African game was the best innovation for the coming sports season.
Silbaerg Snowboards won the DuPont Hardware Winter Award for their edge construction, which allows them to be used on runs as well as in parks. They were developed by students at the Technical University Chemnitz.
The YKK Accessories Award went to Recon Industries, an American company that came up with ski goggles that feature an integrated GPS that shows real-time speed, distance or altitude right on the lens. The daily data can then be uploaded to a company via USB.
The new Klymit Pad took the Thermolite Hardware Summer Award based on the fact that deflated, the sleeping pad takes up less space than a soda can, even including the pump. NAU outdoor wear's urban design, high functionality and sustainable production won the company the Biophyl Style Award. PeakZero's outerwear for rescue personnel won the YKK Sportswear Award. Designed in cooperation with the Austrian mountain rescue service, the apparel is functional and lightweight, and does not constrict emergency workers.
The ON Fitness Award went to the Airstreem ergonometer, which is compatible with all types of racing bikes and uses an eddy current brake. It allows cyclists to set the desired distance while exercising in their own homes. The Ego Kit electro motor won the Coolmax Wheeler Award; with the batteries for the 1,200-watt motor worn as a backpack, a downhill bike rider can make steep ascents with ease.
The Ispo Social Awareness Award was won by the Munich-based association Ich Will Da Rauf, which works with the climbing pros Alexander and Thomas Huber to help people ? disabled and not ? enjoy climbing. The Social Awareness Award goes to groups that show a special social engagement in the sector of sports.
