It was on Feb. 15, that Technogym was introducing a new concept: Healthness.

Healthness is to build on another of the company’s concepts, Wellness, which it says it introduced 40 years ago – “in an industry characterized first by bodybuilding, then by fitness.” Not to nitpick, but the Oxford English Dictionary traces “wellness” back to 1654. “Healthness,” though, is for the OED a genuine neologism.

What Technogym means by it, in any case, is “Precision Wellness,” in which “data-driven customized programs” enable customers to speed up their gains by about 70 percent. “Healthness, in addition to helping people live longer in good health, represents a great business opportunity for fitness, sports, hospitality, corporate and medical operators and personal trainers to evolve their offering and create value through hyper-personalization.”

In short, Technogym is taking 30 years of data collected through its Mywellness Open Platform and feeding it into AI to yield products and services. Technogym Checkup, for instance, is an “assessment station” that analyzes “psycho-physical and cognitive parameters” to determine a person’s “Wellness Age” and set up “Precision Training programs.” One of these, called Biostrength, will streamline gym work, calculating ideal resistance, sets and reps. Another is called Biocardio.

All of these products and services – Checkup, App, Live, Smart Strength Equipment, Viso, Mywelness Kiosk – are networked and data generating.

“Physical exercise,” says the company, “is a true medicine (Exercise Is Medicine) and Healthness represents a preventative medicine to improve physical performance in the short term and guarantee healthy longevity in the long term.”
