Brekka, the Italian brand of headwear and other winter accessories, is targeting growth of at least 30 percent this year, thanks mainly to the expansion of its sales outside its domestic market. One important factor for this year's exceptional growth will be the company's breakthrough into the North American market with a distribution contract signed with a Montreal-based firm, Jovi Sport, which starts with the next autumn/winter collection. The highest growth rate will probably be recorded in France, where Brekka has formed a special partnership with the Galeries Lafayette department store chain for the sale of its line of headwear in 23 of its stores. In Italy and the rest of the Eurozone, its sales of beanies should be up by 20 percent. The company declines to discuss its actual turnover, but an executive of the company said that its sales were flat in 2012 as lower sales under the Brekka name were offset by higher sales of Volcom and Electric products, which it distributes on an exclusive basis in Italy. The company is still looking for an agent to represent Brekka in Germany, where it currently has a private label contract with Sport Scheck.
