Bründl Sports, one of the major Austrian sports retailers, has decided to stop working with Intersport Austria, starting next Sept. 1. It has already announced the divorce by removing the Intersport Bründl name from its website, after almost 50 years of collaboration. The reason for the separation is a desire to concentrate more on product competence, service and the shopping experience. It seems, however, that the split has something to do with the high membership fees that the chain is paying to Intersport because of its large size. The former Sport Eybl & Sport Experts went in the same direction before selling itself to Sport Direct International. Founded in 1956 and run by the second generation of the Bründl family, the chain operates 46 stores, mostly in Austria's mountain resorts. It claims to be the biggest supplier of rented skis in the country.
