Brunswick Corp., the parent company of Life Fitness, has acquired Scifit Systems and added it to its Life Fitness division. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Scifit, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has a line of fitness equipment designed to meet the needs of senior citizens and patients undergoing rehabilitation. In 2014, Scifit posted revenues of about $17 million. Life Fitness had sales of $769.3 million in the same year. In describing the deal, Brunswick emphasized the opportunities provided by the active-ageing market, which is growing constantly. The around 60,000 facilities in the U.S. that are geared to seniors are increasing their spending on exercise equipment, said Brunswick, and most are likely to increase their spending further in the near future, considering the large number of baby boomers who are reaching retirement age. The acquisition of Scifit is expected to have a minor impact on Brunswick's earnings for 2015.
