BSI, the German Sports Goods Manufacturers Association, presented a study on watersports at the recent OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen, which we have covered widely in The Outdoor Industry Compass. BSI questioned online 250 men and 250 women who purchased a watersports product in sporting goods stores in the last 12 months about their buying behavior. Swimming, snorkeling and aqua fitness were the most quoted water sports undertaken by the respondents, who also stated that they would buy more watersports products if retailers would offer a greater variety of products in their stores, making it available all year round. According to the study, about 20 percent of all purchases in this segment are made on impulse.
