Burton has announced the Burton x Happy Impulse Capsule collection designed by Roberta Hall, aka “Happy Impulse;” winner of the brand’s 2022 Design Your Pride contest. Burton’s initiative called for LGBTQ+ artists from around the world to submit a body of work (in any medium) for the opportunity to collaborate on an exclusive capsule collection. Winning the contest meant not only the chance for Hall to collaborate with the world’s leading snowboard brand but also to design a collection while representing a community that lives Pride 12 months of the year.
Hall is a U.S.-based LGBTQ+ artist and political activist whose work focuses on the “satirical and subversive,” infusing her dark humor with vibrant color and pop culture. For the Burton x Happy Impulse Capsule collection, Hall made a conscious decision to deviate from the expected Pride Month color palette and work with white graphics on black fabrics. For Hall and the Burton design team, subverting the once-a-year “rainbow wash” provides an opportunity to express themselves authentically and have bold new discussions about Pride.
The limited-edition apparel collection includes a sweater, cap and T-shirt and features a look that stands out from the typical Pride month visuals. It is available in Burton stores and on Burton.com.
Burton has committed to setting aside $2 million of profits annually to support values-based organizations that positively impact people, planet and sport, including the Venture Out Project, which conducts backpacking and wilderness tours for the queer and transgender community.
