Cab9 Eyewear, a French company formed by a team of snowboard instructors, has raised a total of €10,649 from 167 contributors through Kickstarter to fund the production of its new action sports sunglass, called the Edge. Based in the French alpine ski resort of Méribel, Cab9 has been turning out Cruiser sunglasses for two years, building up a certain reputation for quality at reasonable prices. The new Edge sunglass is designed to perform in dynamic environments involving snow, water and dirt. Made from TR90, the sunglasses weigh just 25 grams including the lenses but are flexible and durable. The frames are fitted with hydrophilic rubber contact pads at the nose and ears. The lenses are made using HiDef Optics technology, so they are polarized to reduce glare from reflective surfaces. They also offer near infrared protection, reducing eye fatigue when the wearer is exposed to bright sunlight for long periods. The frames come in a stylish matte black finish with a choice of five color options. Pledging options in the Kickstarter campaign started from €25. The rewards for the investors include a 10 percent discount on any Cab9 produced and free Cab9 branded T-shirts and vinyl stickers. Edge sunglasses retail for only €69, with deliveries starting this month.
