The board of directors for Intersport Spain has removed Intersport Spain CEO (director general) Ángel Solores, according to Diffusion Sport and others.
The change in management is apparently intended to effect a change of management – one that will make a three-year strategic plan, for 2024–27, a priority. To carry out this plan, Intersport Spain raised €600,000 in new capital late last year and has since issued 60 million new ordinary and nominative shares, according to Modaes.
The Spanish board and the rest of the executive team will be taking charge of the company for as long as necessary and implementing that plan. Meanwhile, Maite García, President of Intersport Spain, and Pedro Ferrer, President of Intersport, will be serving temporarily as joint CEOs.
Solores became Director General in May of last year in replacement of Xavier Alomar, who held the similar but eliminated title of Consejero Delegado, as Modaes recounts. Solores had spent a decade leading Probike, a cycling retailer.
Correction: Our original story said that the boards of both Interport and Intersport Spain had made the decision to remove the CEO in Spain. The Intersport group has since informed us that its own board of directors was not involved.
