Charlie Denson, president of the Nike brand, told the China Daily that the company intended to rapidly expand its distribution in second- and third-tier Chinese cities. The brand already has about 7,000 mono-brand stores around China, but it wants to move deeper into the country, on the western side and in smaller cities. Although the Nike brand has been in China for 30 years, its development has dramatically accelerated in the last years: Nike's sales roughly doubled in China in the four years until the end of its fiscal year in May, establishing it as the clear market leader in the country. China has become Nike's second-largest market after the U.S.
