CMD Sport has worked out that a record number of JD stores was opened in Spain this year. After openings in the shopping center of La Cañada in Marbella and the shopping center of Mataró Park in Mataró earlier this month, the number of openings has reached 14, to form a network of 40 Spanish stores. This compares with eight Spanish openings for JD in 2016. Another store was opened in Portugal, meaning that JD should end the year with 42 outlets in Iberia. They form part of a joint venture project that was agreed earlier this year between Sport Zone, the leading Portuguese sports retailer, and JD Sprinter, a Spanish entity owned at a small majority by JD Sports Fashion, which brings together JD and Sprinter stores.
